Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action on Thursday as they host Manchester United in North London for a blockbuster clash. 

The Lilywhites have recently sacked caretaker boss Cristian Stellini following the humiliating 6-1 loss at Newcastle United on Sunday. 

Ryan Mason has now been handed the temporary role as the English boss will aim to help his side finish as high as possible.

Sunday’s defeat was one of Spurs’ heaviest ever in the English top-flight. They conceded an incredible five goals within the first 21 minutes, with Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak bagging braces and Joelinton also adding another. 

Harry Kane reduced the deficit in the second half before Callum Wilson netted another to cap off a stunning success at St James’ Park. 

The latest thrashing leaves the North Londoners six points behind the Magpies who also have a game in hand over their rivals. 

Meanwhile, Manchester United will enter the next match on the back of a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup semi-final. 

Both sides had several opportunities to break the deadlock but wasteful finishing meant the scoreline remained 0-0 even after extra time. 

The quality of penalties was superb from both teams but Solly March missed the Seagulls’ seventh spotkick while Victor Lindelof converted his to seal a thrilling win at Wembley. 

Erik ten Hag’s men will now turn their focus to the Premier League where their chances of finishing in the top-four is looking very promising. 

This didn’t look to be true at the start of this month when they lost 2-0 to Newcastle at St James’ Park. 

But three successive wins since that setback means they are now top favourites to earn Champions League football for next season. 

Team News 

Spurs’ number one keeper Hug Lloris sustained an injury against Newcastle and so he will be missing Thursday’s match. 

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Bentancur, Emerson Royal, Ryan Sessegnon and Yves Bissouma will also be absent as they are currently on the treatment table. 

As for United, one of their key players in the form of Bruno Fernandes will not be available after he picked up a knock on Sunday in latest Man Utd news. The midfielder has joined Donny van de Beek, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Phil Jones, Alejandro Garnacho and Tom Heaton who are all nursing injuries.
